Good Manners

I do hope you like this picture, I know I do. It's by John Ferneley Sr (1782 - 1860).

But more than this ...  ... Please study the reins! This is how I'd always expect to see horses at a Meet or outside a show ring, or chatting to friends as one waits to set off on a ride.

Sadly, I don't see this so much these days. That air of relaxation and quiet confidence that makes for good manners. Too often I see competitors lined up before entering or leaving the ring on a tight rein... as though afraid to give their horses their heads.

So next time you are waiting or standing around wherever it may be- please trust your horse. Give him his head and he will trust you. SL
