Classical Dressage Trainers, Judges and Testsheets PDF Print E-mail

In 1998, the Classical Riding Club published its ground-breaking booklet MAKING A DIFFERENCE.  This book (available through the Merchandise section) is a must for anyone keen to promote an alternative way of running and judging a dressage test.   In it we suggested a revolutionary way of marking Dressage Tests to encourage better riding practice and happier horses.  This was not intended to supercede the established way of Dressage marking, rather to use it as an adjunct or alternative – especially at the lower levels – so riders could be rewarded for how they rode rather what they rode!

We suggested more appreciation should be given to the overall way of going. After all does it really matter so much if you wiggle once on the centre line or if your circle starts one metre after B?  Surely it matters more that your horse moves happily forward on a light contact and that your circles show your horse nicely bent around a correctly placed inside leg?

You can read all about our Dressage Mark system when you become a Member of CRC.  You will have access to all our Dressage tests, marksheets and judges’ guidelines; these are available to Silver and Gold level Members in the Dressage Library section of the Website.  You may be amazed how some of our ideas (e.g. allowing riders discretion when and where to rise to the trot) have recently been adopted by organised Dressage, including British Dressage!  Also, greater freedom over bitting…dressage judges to ride to at least the level they judge… etc. were all CRC initiatives.

However, we want more!  We want judges more educated in the matter of assessing the different breed types.  For too long, horses/ponies which were not your ‘Dressage Competition Type’ (with a huge price tag) have suffered discrimination.  We want more understanding re. equine biomechanics so that riding which interferes with the horse’s own natural movement is penalised.

All CRC Dressage test sheets, marksheets and judges' guidelines are available FREE to Members in the Dressage Library.  They can also be accessed by selecting the links below, please ensure you are logged into the Website.
