We British pride ourselves on being a race of superior horsemen. The Royal Navy may no longer rule the waves and the sun finally set over our Empire long ago. But are we really the true masters of the equestrian world as most people fondly think? It is easy to bask in the reflected glory of such splendid figureheads as Ludinda Green, Virginia Leng and John Whitaker from the world of eventing and showjumping.
