Interpretation of "Classical": In relation to horsemanship and horse welfare, classical means following the centuries old principles for systematic training of horse and rider, which have stood the test of time and are well documented by past masters. Through working with nature, the aim is to create harmony between the two beings, while preserving the uniqueness of their individual spirit.

Interpretation of "Classical": Modern Classical Riding and Horse Training  for me is about utilizing the knowledge and writings of the “Old Masters” and in my own case utilizing the knowledge we have gained from modern scientific research to train horses in a way that will improve their strength and gymnastic ability. The process is about working with the nature and biomechanics of the horse never against them. There is no place for fear, force or gadgets and the aims is always to be kind, sympathetic and gentle.

The Classical riding position is the position that works best for the horse and rider and does not block the horse’s natural movement. A Classical training system is a sensitive and subtle means of communicating with the horse. “Less is more” is my favourite Nuno Oliveira quote and it is very much the case that doing less if more effective.
