Interpretation of "Classical": To me the word "Classical" is a representation of art and any true work of art should express in it a part of self from the artist. In following the explanatory teachings of the classical masters, training our horses with empathy and patience, looking to self as a means of improving ones skills, always being aware of one’s own posture, balance and application of the aids. This, combined with the self-discipline to increase one’s own knowledge and ability for one’s own benefit and that of the animals which one works with is in part what classical means to me. There are many methods of training horses which produce competitive correct movements and with them provide competitive success but these movements, without a sense of pride, cadence and spirit from the horse are nothing more than painting by numbers. Where there is true harmony between horse and rider, combined with mutual trust and respect you also have mutual pride where both partners enjoy their work. To me this is classical in its most pure art form.
